MANAGING "THE BALANCING ACT" FOR THE WORKING WOMAN

9/30/2014

Most working woman are in the market place to enhance their revenue stream and their quality of life, and while being skilled at visioning their goals, many fall short of reaching those goals because they are not adept at balancing the various aspects of their lives that create a quality and fulfilling life.  This workshop is designed for women who have goals of financial security, optimum wellness and living the life they dream.  Specific tools and strategies will be addressed in this experiential and powerful workshop to help explore new opportunities to enhance marketability in the workplace and/or leverage opportunities for increased salary within current work environments

The workshop facilitator is;  Rita Anita linger, President/CEO SERA, inc.  Rita Anita currently serves as the President/CEO of SERA, Inc. (Southeast Raleigh Assembly, Inc).  www.southeastraleigh.org.  SERA, Inc. focuses on improving the quality of life for residents while developing enduring relationships between corporations/business and citizens.  The organization concentrates on building community capacity, building business and economic development opportunities, developing youth through leadership and empowerment initiatives, creating safe communities through public safety efforts, creating opportunities for enhanced health and wellbeing particularly as it relates to environments and policy change, advocating for enhanced transportation systems, as well as affordable housing,  and providing technical assistance/ support to non-profit organizations in the Southeast Raleigh Community

Ms. Linger believes in using  person-centered processes to identify, cultivate and synthesize capabilities within human systems for professional and personal success. She believes as her favorite humanist and psychologist, Abraham Maslow posits "People's capabilities clamor to be used, and without those capabilities being realized, the person can atrophy, and disappear - diminishing him/her forever." To that end,  Ms. Lingers works to bring the best of people including youth to their own awareness, ultimately causing them to self-generate authentic, humanistic and synergistic relationships amongst and between people in the workplace and their wider community; experiencing leadership in a way that will create solutions for seemingly intractable issues, and help positively change and sustain human environments and communities.  She is a doctoral candidate in Human Science with over 25 years experience working within corporate and non profit environments.

SERA, INC. Receives Wake County Council On Health and Fitness Excellence Award

9/25/2014

Downtown Raleigh, Commerce Building, 19 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601

SERA, Inc., one of the premiere capacity building organizations in Southeast Raleigh works to enhance the quality of life for its citizens and communities in all facets of life from financial viability and empowerment to health and wellbeing.  They accomplish this goal through their work using the model of compassionate economics.  This model is built on the premise that behind a community’s financial wealth is a human being and a family.  SERA, Inc. concerns itself with the civic labor of building healthy communities, the social justice labor of progressive social movements and the environmental labor needed to preserve a healthy natural environment for current and future residents.

SERA, Inc. understands the connection between healthy citizens and the ability to create individual wealth and financial security.  SERA Inc.’s “The People’s Community Integrative Health Center”, is a mobile center which plans and schedules appointments in advance and provides integrative health and wellness services and programs at various Southeast Raleigh Community Centers.  Participants can receive blood pressure readings, meet with a palliative care physician, health and life coaches, bio-feedback professionals, RNs, energy medicine practitioners, attend health and nutrition trainings, work in SERA, Inc.’s Community Garden ROOT1, and engage with physical fitness instructors.  All providers of services in the center are licensed or certified.

On Monday, SERA, Inc. was honored by the Wake County Council on Health and Fitness with the Council’s inaugural “Excellence Award” for its work to encourage health and fitness in Southeast Raleigh communities through its Integrative Health Center program “Dancing in the Park” (DNP).  Over 25 community residents, community partners and sponsors attended.  Southeast Raleigh Councilor, Eugene Weeks opened the ceremony with accolades for the work of the Southeast Raleigh Assembly.

DNP takes place during the summer months and brings a certified health and fitness instructor and her team to Chavis Community Park.  300 participants come out on Monday and Tuesday evenings to participate in Zumba training, ab work, stretching and belly dancing.  The program is holistic in nature and works with community partners such as the Interfaith Food Shuttle to provide healthy meals for children and families each Monday evening, local county and city health agencies, local small business owners who promote health and wellness, community gardeners and nutrition experts participate to provide participants with information/education, free opportunities to attend cooking classes and workshops on health.  DNP is sponsored by Plexus, Wake County, City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, YMCA, Interfaith Food Shuttle, Duke Energy, North State Bank Mortgage.  Participants lost up to 32 pounds over the 8 week period.  The average weight loss was 8 lbs.

The Wake County Council on Health and Fitness seeks out organizations and/or individuals who go beyond the call of duty to bring opportunities to communities helping them realize their potential to change their health status and build capacity to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  “The Council is pleased with the work SERA, Inc. is doing to empower the whole person to be successful in life”, says Leon Dexter Bullard, Chair of the Council.  Rita Anita Linger, CEO of the Southeast Raleigh Assembly, Inc. thanked members of the Council in attendance for “identifying the importance of transforming communities from low health and fitness levels to a places where there is access and opportunity to experience the resources to live healthy and stay that way.”  Ms. Linger stated that “SERA, Inc.’s work with Southeast Raleigh residents is in part responsible for helping Wake County to gain the designation of being the healthiest county in North Carolina, and we will continue to work toward that end.”
